I've had it under my hat for a couple of weeks now. I needed permission to share. It seriously had to wait for the press to be told. Seriously. The PRESS.
But it's out as of 8:00 a.m. today. So I share ...
It started four weeks ago when the mayor-elect of Chicago announced he'd like people with "integrity, grit, loyalty" to apply for positions in his new administration. Character is essential they announced.
"You've got character!" the Butler told me. So I applied. I expected my resume would be thrown in the trash POST HASTE.
But I got a call. A pre-interview. Directions. A time. A new suit. A ride to the Loop in the METRA. And a meeting with the future mayor.
And an offer.
I'll be taking care of small things. An assistant to an assistant. But still ... it's a job. A good job. A worthy job. Politics don't matter. Loyalty does. Knowing when to be quiet. Knowing what to say when you are not. Knowing where the bottled water is, how long it takes to get to the airport, who to contact when one needs a clean tie.
I start on Monday.
My first assignment: How to pull a really good April Fool's joke on blog readers. How'd I do?
