Good Sports ... All of Ya

And I thank you for that.  I haven't pulled a good April Fool's Spoof since I was 8 years old and me and my  Grandpa (a very naughty pair) convinced my Grandma that a mouse had scurried behind her stove.  I can still see his back, his shoulders jarring up and down as he tried to hold in laughter while he pulled the stove away from the wall for Grandma to "capture that varmint".

We were trouble.  And we were in trouble.  No dessert for us!  Except that Grandma caved and served us anyway.  She even served Grandpa a second helping when he tapped his coffee cup with his teaspoon .. his "call" that she was to figure out what he needed and hop to it!

It was the 60s.  And times had not yet changed.

Anyway ... GREAT NEWS ... Chase Avery has arrived. And he made me a GREAT aunt.  He was born last Thursday afternoon to my niece and her husband via c-section.  He weighed 8 lbs 10 ozs and was 22 inches long and had a BIG head.

Less than 48 hours after giving birth via major surgery my niece and her new baby were at home.  Something is wrong with that picture.

Here is something amusing.  My niece had never changed a diaper in her life.  Never seen anyone nurse a baby.  Never driven with a child in her car  Never cleaned spit up.  Never fed a bottle.  Never babysat.  Never had a sibling or a cousin young enough to be involved in their care. Never dressed an infant, bathed an infant, or rocked an infant.  She asked my mama how many hours in between diaper changes?

So her husband is pretty much doing it all.  Which is okay.  Except he goes back to work tomorrow.

Here he is.  We think he's pretty cute. And ... he has his daddy's red hair which endears him immediately.

That's my mama in the background, scurrying around so fast that she won't come out crisp in a photo. She is 73 years old and she likes to say she has "been raising kids for 53 years."

She raised me and my 2 younger brothers.  Then she raised my two nieces, the older one is Chase's mama.  Now she will have her hand in raising Chase because Chase and his parents live with her.  They are so young.  They were married 3 1/2 years ago straight out of high school and are both in college and working.  So my mama ... the Great Grammie ... will be Chase's babysitter.  At least until she is exhausted.  We're taking bets that she outlasts us all.

So that is the big news around here.  Along with Butler (not related to THE Butler in any way) and UConn playing tonight (GO Bulldogs!!), the CUBS losing their opener and the big storms that swept through here last night.

Plus ... I did my spring cleaning.  But that is so exciting you'll have to wait for another day to hear about it.

Happy Monday!
